First class for Information Communication and Technology in Science, I have learned about the Smart Board. From the definition, Smart Board is actually a series of interactive whiteboards that developed by Smart Technologies and includes the 600 series, the 800 series and the 400 series (only available in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia Pacific, Latin America and Mexico). The first Smart Board interactive whiteboard was introduced in 1991.
Before entering the class my friends had mention about this Smart Board but at that time I only have a simple idea about the Smart Board it is. Actually when first time I am at UPSI, I was introduced about Smart Board by Math’s lecture. At that time I just watched that board without had any opportunity to touch and used it.
Information Communication and Technology in Science (ICT in Science) teaches me on how to use the Smart Board correctly. At first it is quite difficult for me to use it because that board very sensitive for me. I need to touch it politely but at least I know how to manage it in the future. The instructor shows me on how to explore that Smart Board and for me it is so fun. Smart Board is an interactive whiteboard that uses touch detection for user input like scrolling, right mouse-click that in the same way normal PC input devices, such as a mouse or keyboard, detect input. Then a projector is used to display a computer's video output on the interactive whiteboard, which then acts as a large touch screen. The Smart Board interactive whiteboard typically comes with four pens, which use digital ink and replace traditional whiteboard markers.
Beside that, the Smart Board interactive whiteboard operates as part of a system that includes the interactive whiteboard, a computer, a projector and white boarding software called Smart Notebook collaborative learning software. We got this software from the instructor by order of our lecturer. So during ICT in Science lessons, all the presentation must be in Smart Board version. The components are connected wirelessly, via USB or serial cables. A projector connected to the computer displays the computer's desktop image on the interactive whiteboard. The interactive whiteboard accepts touch input from a finger, pen or other solid object. Each contact with the Smart Board interactive whiteboard is interpreted as a left-click from the mouse. Smart Board interactive whiteboards are also available as a front-projection flat-panel display – interactive surfaces that fit over plasma or LCD display panels. Most Smart Board interactive whiteboards register only one touch at a time however, in June 2009. Smart Technologies introduced their first dual-touch interactive whiteboard. The dual-touch Smart Board interactive whiteboard accepts two simultaneous touches, however only on two separate sides of the interactive whiteboard surface.
As the conclusion, Smart Board makes my lessons more fun and interesting. Using the technology in learning activity avoid me from getting bored.
